Spruce Kings Drop Game 2 by 4-2 Score

The Prince George Spruce Kings tied the game twice but a pair of Chilliwack Chiefs goals just 47 seconds apart couldn’t be responded to as the Spruce Kings dropped Game 2 by a 4-2 score.

Chilliwack opened the scoring just 1:21 into the game as they were given an early power play, and Dustin Renas got the marker on a slick feed in front by Brady Milburn.

The Spruce Kings would get three penalties in the first 7:42 of the game, killing off the latter two, while only getting 1:15 of time on the man advantage.

Nicolas Papineau got the game tied up at 15:59 of the first period, after working the puck off the wall to Ryan Wachtel, who fired a puck off the pad of Quentin Miller, as Papineau buried the rebound.

Just as it looked like the Spruce Kings were about to get out of the first period, Jayden Veney snuck down the middle from the point and Renas spotted him and he beat Charles Gravel to make it 2-1 after the opening frame.

Brock Cummings scored his second in as many nights at 4:12 of the second, as Will Moore’s pass deflected off Linden Makow’s skate and Cummings was able to beat Miller to tie the game at two.

Special Teams would strike again for the Chiefs, as Milburn’s third of the series squeaked through the pads of Gravel to give Chilliwack a 3-2 lead, once again on the power play.

Just 47 seconds later, Carter Anderson was the recipient of the goal after a couple of saves and blocked shots, but the Spruce Kings couldn’t clear and it ended up in the back of the net for a 4-2 Chiefs lead.

Prince George fired 16 shots on Miller in the third period but couldn’t beat him, as the Chiefs took both of their home games and a 2-0 series lead into Game 3 on Tuesday night from Kopar Memorial Arena in Prince George
