Charles Gravel made 42 saves as the Prince George Spruce Kings fell 2-1 to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
Prince George was unable to register a shot on goal in the opening frame, giving up 13 Chiefs shots but Gravel stood tall and kept it scoreless after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Chiefs continued to push hard for the opening goal, finally scoring on the power play at 14:12 as Dwayne Jean Jr fired a one-timer over Gravel to make it 1-0.
Carter Anderson made it 2-0 just 1:35 later after the Spruce Kings blocked a shot and it sat for Anderson who spun and fired it past Gravel to make it 2-0. The Spruce Kings were out shot 27-6 in the second period.
In the third, it was a different Spruce Kings team, as they scored on the power play at 4:03 as Brock Cummings scored his 5th of the playoffs (one in each game) off a deflection of a Trent LeDrew point shot. Kazumo Sasaki drew the second assist.
Gravel made a diving stop on the Spruce Kings lone penalty kill of the third period.
Prince George had a couple of good looks in the final minute with the net empty, but couldn’t beat Quentin Miller to tie the game.
