SPRUCE KINGS FALL TO EAGLES IN SEASON OPENER

PRINCE GEORGE BC – It was not the start the Prince George Spruce Kings were looking for in the banner raising night and home opener at the RMCA, falling 4-2 to the Surrey Eagles.

In the opening frame, Fin Williams got the 1230 in attendance roaring, as he tapped the puck home in the blue paint to put the Spruce Kings up 1-0 at 11:12 of the first. Just six minutes later, it was the Eagles who evened it up at one. Adamo Santia threw the puck towards the goal at the ringette line that appeared to look like a bounce off a stick and ended up beating goaltender Jett Alexander to tie it up.

In the second period, the Eagles poured it on. Carter King hammered one past Alexander at the 5:21 mark to put the Eagles up a goal on the man advantage. At the 11:23 mark, Eagles forward Hudson Schandor made absolutely no mistake in the slot going glove side on Alexander to make it a 3-1 Surrey lead. In that time frame, the Eagles were outshooting the Spruce Kings 13-4, before PG got some decent chances in the later going. However, they were unable to solve goaltender Thomas Scarfone, who made 31 saves tonight.

In the third, there were some back and fourth chances from both clubs, but nobody was able to bury. It was until 12:34 of the period, on the Spruce Kings second power-play of the night, Fin Williams put home a backdoor tap in on a feed from Nick Poisson to put the game within one. The 1230 in attendance at the RMCA were roaring after Williams’ second marker of the night. PG continued to pour it on, ended up getting another power play, but it was Scarfone who shut the door and kept the game tied. In the final minute, the Spruce Kings were pressing but it was Christophe Tellier who caught a turnover and buried the yawning empty net to solidify the Eagles win.

Both of these teams meet again tomorrow night right here at the RMCA at 7:00.
