The Prince George Spruce Kings are thrilled to announce the hiring of Andrew Shaw as the team’s new Associate Coach.
The 32-year-old Shaw is a native of Chilliwack and spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Chilliwack Chiefs. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Shaw played junior hockey in Castlegar (KIJHL) and Nipawin (SJHL) and studied political science at the University of Victoria.
Andrew Shaw replaces Lukas Lomicky who left the Spruce Kings earlier in the summer to accept a position with the Vernon Vipers to be closer to family in the Okanagan.
“I’m thrilled to join the Spruce Kings organization. I’m thankful to Mike Hawes, Alex Evin and Craig Carter for the opportunity. This is an excellent organization and I’m privileged to join Alex’s staff. My wife and I are looking forward to an adventure and immersing ourselves in the community,” said Shaw.
“We are really happy to add Andrew to our coaching staff. Throughout the process, we felt Andrew’s values, enthusiasm, and work ethic align well with our organization,” stated Spruce Kings head coach Alex Evin.
“Andrew comes highly recommended, and I feel he checks a lot of boxes that we look for in the people we hire in our hockey operations department. He has experience in the BCHL with a good program and we look forward to having him contribute to the success of the Spruce Kings,” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.
The Spruce Kings organization would like to welcome Andrew and his wife Kaitlyn to Prince George and to the Spruce Kings family and look forward to having them in Prince George ahead of the start of training camp on Friday September 2nd.
