PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ty Gagno (’03) recently announced where he will be playing his next chapter of hockey once his junior career comes to an end.

On Monday, Gagno posted to his social media announcing he will be taking his skills to the College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusetts.

“I am super excited about the commitment. It’s a special moment for me and my family,” said Gagno following his announcement. “As soon as I stepped on campus I knew it was the right fit. Obviously with a great coaching staff like they have and great hockey culture there I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

The Holy Cross Crusaders men’s ice hockey team is a Division 1 program within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Crusaders are a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association, which includes other notable programs like Bentley University (current Spruce King Colton Cameron), Mercyhurst University, American International College (Dustin Manz), and Rochester Institute of Technology.

“We are proud of Ty,” said Spruce Kings Head Coach Alex Evin. “He and his family are very deserving of this achievement. Since joining our program last fall as an 18-year-old, we have witnessed Ty consistently improve each and every day both of and off the ice. He is a great teammate and always shows up to the rink every day with a smile on his face ready to work.”

In 12 games this season, the 19-year-old has scored 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists). Last season, Gagno played in 52 games and put up 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) for the Spruce Kings. Ahead of his second season with the Spruce Kings, Gagno was named an assistant captain.

“I’m thrilled for Ty,” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes. “He epitomizes what it is to be a Spruce King. He plays the game hard and plays the right way. He’s very deserving of this achievement.”

The Spruce Kings are proud of Ty for this achievement as he looks towards the future of his hockey-playing career, and we look forward to his further contributions to our organization.
